What are templates?
Your store contains various data types including products, pages, collections, articles and more. Every data type instance is assigned a template. Every page has a page template, every product has a product template, and so on. These templates tell your website how to present each product, page or other instance.
By default, this theme package has provided many templates for you including a default product template, default page template, and so on. For the most part, you probably won't want or need to create any additional templates other than the defaults, besides one exception - page templates. Shopify explains how to edit existing templates, such as the default templates provided, and how to add new templates, such as page templates.
While referencing Shopify's documentation, it might also be useful to review our Sections to Pick guide when selecting sections for templates that fit your content goals.
Remember, once you've created a new template you'll need to apply it! Navigate to the data type instance you want to apply it to, such as a special landing page you just created under the Online Store > Pages tab, and change the "Theme template" setting to the template you made for it.
